SysADF_CM01: Shared Ontology Elements

ID and Title

SysADF_CM01: Shared Ontology Elements

Description

Any defined ontology elements can be used on any number of conceptual models in the structure view as long as they are used as defined in the model repository. However, there may be a need to provide a consistent way for the ontology element to be used across conceptual models.

The integration of specific ontology elements from conceptual models across system descriptions can be achieved by specifying the associations between the conceptual models in one or more system descriptions.

This Correspondence Method defined the way that this is done.

Process Steps

Specific ontology element integration is carried out using the following steps:

  • Identify the two conceptual models (Structure Section) to share ontology elements

    • System Description of the ontology elements to be shared

    • One or more system descriptions that will be using the shared elements.

  • Identify the ontology elements that need to be shared and integrated.

    • optionally extend the ontology element name for use in the other system descriptions.

  • Create a model showing all of the ontology elements that participate in this integration.

  • Change or add new elements to define this interface.

  • Review the interfaces as necessary

  • Create a correspondence that describes the way the ontology element integration is handled

  • Add the final model to the correspondence topic and indicate ready to be published.

Example

Extension of Ecosystem Habit Type for use within the Enterprise (SoS).

Ecosystem ontology element Habit is shared for use by Enterprise

The organization is the place where the extended ontology element is used.
