ID and Title
SysADF_CM02: Extend Ontology Elements for new System Type
Description
A new system type may require unique ontology elements to enable stakeholder engagement and understanding. Extending ontology elements provides a way to inherit an ontology element properties and then tailor the new ontology elements for the new conceptual model.
NOTE: from a model perspective, this is a way to keep the original definition of the ontology element in the original conceptual model simple inheritable in the original sense of the ontology element.
Process Steps
Specific ontology element extension to a new conceptual model is carried out using the following steps:
-
Identify the ontology elements in a conceptual model to extend
-
Create a model with the ontology elements to extend (from the original conceptual model).
-
Create new ontology elements for the new conceptual model
-
Generalize these to the appropriate ontology elements from the original conceptual model.
-
Add any additional connections
-
Review the extension and finalize.
Example
Extension of new elements from existing conceptual model.
